Very elegant beautiful antique ring with genuine turquoise gemstone and 6 diamonds in 14ct gold (hallmarked 585).
 
The blue-green turquoise first became known in Europe through the Crusaders. It got its name from the French term "pierre turquoise", which translates as "Turkish stone". Its outdated name "Kallait" comes from the Greek "Kallainos" and means "iridescent blue and green". Pliny the Elder already mentioned it in his work "Naturalis historia". Particularly beautiful turquoises were found in Arizona, where it is still considered a sacred stone by the Native Americans. Turquoise was also regarded as a protective stone in ancient Egypt and Greece.
